Blogs To Read
Ones We Love and From Whom We've Lovingly Stolen Ideas
zeldman.com - Jeffrey Zeldman does something on his design and idea blog that too few bloggers do today: he thinks before he writes. What results from this habit are great articles that often become wonderful starting points for discussion.
Book Beast - Launched late last year, this division of The Daily Beast's already excellent news and opinion site covers the latest books, and scores reviews with big name authors.
xkcd blag - Everyone knows the comic, but not nearly as many people follow the 'blag' regularly. Aside from being a math and computer science geek, Randall Munroe, creator of xkcd, is a very big language geek. A lot of his blog posts reflect that.
World Class Poetry Blog - This one really lives up to its name. A great one-stop shop to see what's going on in the world of poetry.
The Millions - This one might be our favorite blog of the bunch. If it's word-related and it takes place online, you can bet The Millions will cover it. C. Max Magee and his time are known for digging deep into books and poems.
Escape Into Life - This online Arts zine and auction house boasts an impressive array of new art, poetry, and essays posted regularly. Several members of our team are regular contributors to EIL.
Classic Poetry Aloud - This one's not a blog per se: it's a podcast. But it's a truly excellent one, and it's well-voiced host reads poems with great emotional impact.
Fantastic Poems - Fantastic as in Fantasy. This is a great central place to find out about Fantasy poetry, and to learn a little more about how to write some yourself.
SpokenVerse - This one is a YouTube channel that has readings of poetry along with stimulating visual imagery. A good one to subscribe to.
poetryanimations - Another YouTube channel that features paintings of poets 'animated' to appear as if they themselves are reciting their work. It's creepy, well-done, and altogether awesome.
Mezzo Cammin - A great blog featuring the formalist poetry and criticism by women across the web.
Lessig at the Huffington Post - Lawrence Lessig is the founder of Creative Commons and a defender against Draconian copyright laws. He has since stopped blogging at his main site, but continues to right some really excellent pieces for the Huffington Post.
Suppertime Sonnets - A sonnet a day from our own Kate Sherrod. What began as a project that would last for the year 2009 has extended even further. Now she's added a sestina every Saturday.
The Blog of Innocence - Lethe Bashar, founder and editor of Escape Into Life, blogs his own essays and reflections here.
Twitterature - This one is a Twitter account that digests the great works of Western literature and regurgitates them as hilarious 140-character tweets. Our favorite is their rendition of Oedipus Rex. This account has become so popular it's been turned into a book.
Vroman's Bookstore Blog - Vroman's is one of the largest independent bookstores in the country, and their online presence is formidable as well. This blog is a great read for anyone interested in the online literary scene.
Cha Literary Journal - Blogging from the US, it's sometimes easy to forget how much simpler it is to get involved online in this country than it is elsewhere in the world. We're big fans of Cha, a online lit journal based in Hong Kong that covers literature from and about Asia.
